CTN members took part in a hands-on workshop with five Polish textile artists who were in residence at the Sirius Arts Centre in Cobh on 23rd October 2008.
The girls gave a presentation of their work at their school in Poland and also gave us an insight to the textile courses and general appreciation of textiles in Poland. They then demonstrated a weaving technique
using newspaper to create a bowl many different bowl sculptures were created during the morning.
Peg, the Sirius director facilitated a discussion on the subject of sharing and exchanging skills with the Polish artists and gave many suggestions as to where funding may be obtained for culture related activity. As a first offer I suggested a workshop weekend here in Cork Peg may make the Sirius available. The weekend would be 23/24th May 2009. This weekend would be open to the girls to attend and to CTN members
also. A great opportunity to get to know the girls in a workshop environment.
The international triennial at Lodz (3hr drive from Bytom where the girls live) was also discussed - perhaps a CTN delegation would do a Research Mission to the exhibition and surrounding areas there are over 100 textile exhibitions on show during this period in Poland ( May/June 2010).
Possible joint exhibitions were mooted but not discussed in great depth. The girls were invited to submit work for both of our exhibitions - Elemental in St.Fin Barres and the proposed juried show in 2009.
