Cork Textiles Network 2019 Cork School of Music Exhibition Notes and Brief

Cork School of Music

Nov 2019-  Jan 2020

Cadenza

The annual Cork Textiles Network open exhibition in Cork School of Music  (CSM) will be on show from Wed 27 Nov 2019 to Tuesday 7 Jan 2020.

Every year we invite someone to select a piece from the show that will be awarded with a prize entitled "The Long Note Award” this year RTE arts correspondant Cristin Leach has kindly agreed to make the selection.

The show will not be curated and is open to all full members of CTN to enter.  The only restriction is that we can't have work on a plinth.  When work is framed in white it tends to look best in CSM but it is not essential for this show.

The title of the show which will be held this year is Cadenza which hopefully will allow everyone to work to their own agenda and show what they do best. [cadenza:virtuoso solo passage occurring near the end of a piece of music, formerly improvised by the soloist].

Detailed hanging requirements are available to view on the CTN web site.

Hanging details

All work must be wall hung.

The School of Music/CIT “Pause” policy statement (see attached) does not allow 3d, freestanding, or pieces with dangly bits due to Health and Safety requirements.

It is also worth noting that there are a lot of children in the school every evening so you don’t want them pulling at your piece and damaging it or killing themselves! (pieces are entered at the artists own risk).

Work can be framed or unframed. If framed, pieces look best in white frames.

Work must be ready to hang with appropriate fixtures.

This is important: Hanging details (D rings) must be located at the top back of the work. (see hanging guide attached)

There is no size restriction.

The hanging fee is €10 per piece which is to be paid on the delivery of work.

Please specify if your piece is for sale and at what price or if not for sale (NFS)

Sales are subject to a 20% commission for CTN.

Please label your work well and label your packaging.

Delivery of works

Works should be delivered to the School of Music, Union Quay, Cork on Wednesday the 27th of November 2019 between 10-11am.

The date for the hanging is Wednesday the 27th of November following drop off.

If this drop off date doesn’t suit please arrange with Carmel to get work delivered to her home address in Cobh before that date.  CSM will not be stoing any work in advance of the show.

The exhibition will run until the 7th of January, and will be left in place over the Christmas break. This is really fanntastic as there are huge concert audiences in CSM during the festive period.
